I am a weight-inclusive, Health at Every Size, anti-diet dietitian who has a strong passion for Intuitive Eating! I’ve been a dietitian for 7 years and have worked with eating disorders and disordered eating patients for the past 3 years. I work from a trauma-informed model and recognize that you are the expert on your body.

I work alongside you to improve your relationship with your food and body.

I have studied Polyvagal Theory which I find helps my patients understand and cope with

anxiety and distress around food/body.

I also counsel for conditions such as diabetes, high cholesterol, and high blood pressure from a HAES perspective. I will never ask you to lose weight or follow dangerous diets in an attempt to improve your health.

Emmilia Smith

MS, RDN/CD

My passion for integrative medicine and whole foods nutrition has evolved throughout my life.

Bio

My passion for integrative medicine and whole foods nutrition has evolved throughout my life and career. Like many of my clients, I grew up learning from various outlets that wellness should look and behave a certain way. After learning the transformative impact of integrative functional nutrition through my education at Bastyr University, and witnessing the shame, confusion, and damage that can come from a narrow approach to health through my work with clients, it has become clear to me that one size does not fit all.

With a Health At Every Size approach, I aim to guide clients to uncover any imbalances within their health through an evidence-based holistic lens. I employ the power of science, mindfulness, and intrinsic motivation to propel my clients toward their goals. I feel my success as a functional medicine nutritionist comes from my ability to empathize with others. I honor every person’s needs and personal relationship with food. My goal as a nutrition counselor is to dismantle the belief that a person has to fit a certain mold and empower my clients to believe that they are worthy of nourishing and loving their own unique body.

To fully understand and integrate mindfulness into my practice, I am currently working on becoming a certified mindful eating practitioner through The Center for Mindful Eating.

My Areas of Focus include:

  • Disordered Eating
  • Mindfulness and Mindful Eating
  • Stress Management
  • Digestive Issues – Microbiome Imbalances, IBS, IBD, Celiac Disease
  • Metabolic Conditions – Diabetes, Prediabetes, Heart Health

When I am not in the office, I can be found playing with her cat, reading romance novels, walking/jogging around my neighborhood, and cooking with my partner. I am a big enneagram nerd and love discussing and guessing people’s personality types.

I help my clients make lasting and positive change toward a healthier life.

Bio

I am a functional medicine nutritionist that helps my clients make lasting and positive change toward a healthier life. I provide individuals with the essential tools to strengthen and recover from illness and develop a nourishing relationship with food.

Believing that food is a powerful medicine, I infuse evidence-based nutrition with the healing power of simple whole foods into your nutrition care plan. Food is personal, and no one way of eating works for everyone. My approach to nutrition is holistic in nature: I look at each individual as a unique being with distinct innate and personal needs. My focus is on long-term positive transformation through offering client-centered nutritional counseling, education, mindfulness tools, and emotional awareness. With the goal of achieving optimal health, I seek to motivate and empower my clients to not only lead a self-fulfilling healthy lifestyle, but also achieve a relationship with their bodies and food that is nourishing, flexible, peaceful, sustainable, and balanced.

My Areas of Focus include:

  • Disordered Eating
  • Body Image
  • Relationship to Food
  • Mindful Eating

I hold a Master’s degree in Whole Foods Nutrition and Research from Bastyr University. Before returning to private practice, I directed a brain-health focused nutrition teaching kitchen, while cooking with and counseling families to treat a variety of cognitive and neurological disorders (Alzheimers, dementia, and cognitive impairment). I also worked as a health coach for a Seattle-based wellness company, honing my skills in integrating and translating comprehensive blood, genetic, hormone, and gut microbiome data to generate evidence-based and personalized plans for her patients focusing on all aspects of preventative health, including digestion, healthy aging, sleep and stress management in addition to nutrition and physical activity. I have worked as a culinary nutrition instructor, personal chef, and in professional kitchens throughout Seattle.

I am also a Certified Intuitive Eating Counselor. I am a member of the Academy for Nutrition and Dietetics and the Center for Mindful Eating. I have 15+ years experience working in the nutrition field in the areas of inflammatory diseases, blood sugar management, metabolic disorders, child and family nutrition and culinary education.

In my personal time, you can find me at barre class, biking around Seattle, playing frisbee with my dogs, dancing around my kitchen while cooking up a new seasonal recipe from my home garden, and savoring dark chocolate.

Dr. Lea McKinstry

ND, Primary Care Physician

My passion for nature and wellness is deep-rooted in growing up here in the PNW.

Bio

I am a naturopathic physician who focuses on digestion and women’s health. I approach medicine in an integrative and functional manner, using both natural and conventional treatments. I believe that optimal health begins with good foundations, including good food, clean water, fun movement, restful sleep and connecting with nature. I enjoy working with patients on their healing journeys, supporting, coaching, guiding, and counseling them to whole-body health and happiness.

While studying at Bastyr University, a friend and dietitian introduced me to Health at Every Size® and Intuitive Eating. I went on to seek out further training of these models that aligned with the naturopathic principle of treating the whole person. Making peace with food and our bodies is a fundamental right everyone deserves.

My Areas of Focus Include:

  • Restrictive Eating Disorder
  • Binge Eating Disorder
  • Bulimia
  • ARFID
  • Orthorexia
  • Women’s Health

When I am not in the office, I can be found adventuring in nature with my husband and 2 boys, either up in the mountains, hiking, skiing, biking, or down at the beach, swimming, kayaking, and reading on the couch at the end of a busy day.>>
